Seems as if there are surplus tax dollars everywhere these days.
First of all there was a surplus from last years National budget.
From ReutersGoodale said projections of a surplus of $6 billion to $9 billion for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2005, were "just way out of whack."
In May, the Finance Department released preliminary figures showing a surplus of $9.77 billion for 2004-05, but year-end adjustments will reduce that substantially. The final figure should be ready in two or three weeks, he said.
Guess the Liberals have not quite figured out where to hide all that money yet... I regress...
A report released today shows that Ottowa already has a 4.8 Billion surplus in the past 3 months. Estimates suggest federal coffers could take in another $5 billion due to oil-related revenues. Right there is 9.8 Billion. More is sure to show up as the year chugs along.
Alberta is on tract to post a budget surplus of at least 6.9 billion according to this article.
While all provinces and territories with the exception of Nunavut, Quebec, Ontario and the Yukon should have surpluses as well. At this time I could not find any stats regarding same.
Just taking Alberta's and the Canadian Governments surpluses into account we have 16.7 Billion in surplus taxes. That works out to a cheque for $509.07 to every person in this great country. Yes all 32,805,041 of us in Canada, everyone, not just the tax payers!
Now boys and girls.... can we say...'Over Taxed'.....
