They go on to mention that only 300 turned out in Ottawa and a mere 250 in Canada's largest city, Toronto. Using that as a basis and that they don't bother to mention any other cities in the country, I can only assume that there were perhaps 17 demonstrators in Winnipeg, 20 in Regina, 14 in Saskatoon, 25 in Calgary, 23 in Edmonton, and giving B.C. the benefit of doubt, perhaps another 200 in both Vancouver and Victoria. Add them all up and as you can see we just may get into the "thousands" here folks...

Hell, we get more than 17,000 people out to Rexal Place in the middle of a winter snow storm to watch the Oilers lose. Failing Canadians, one criminal at a time... And don't give me that crap that our crime rates are dropping. The only thing that is dropping is the time criminals spend behind bars and the numbers that are actually convicted for the crimes they commit. Our system would rather hand out "alternative sentences" than put criminals behind bars. Doris Moore is all upset about the name used to describe the color of her new Chinese made couch. She went public with it a couple days ago and has now gotten an explanation and an apology from the culprit.
Kingsoft Corp., a Chinese software company, acknowledged its translation program was at fault and said it was a regrettable error.
"I know this is a very bad word," Huang Luoyi, a product manager for the Beijing-based company's translation software, told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.
He explained that when the Chinese characters for "dark brown" are typed into an older version of its Chinese-English translation software, the offensive N-word description comes up.
"We got the definition from a Chinese-English dictionary. We've been using the dictionary for 10 years. Maybe the dictionary was updated, but we probably didn't follow suit," he said.

Our government marks up medical marijuana 1,500% and it is still cheaper than what you can buy it on the streets for. I have a few questions that I would like answered...
1) How can our government justify this outrageous mark up? 2) Why has not the government and or the insurance companies taken some sort of action to get the cost of this covered under some sort of plan? 3) Why is the quality of it so bad? 4) Why are the RCMP and other police forces around the country burning literally tons of the shit each year, when they could be giving it to those who really need it?
Albertans have had the same license plate for more than 20 years. My 1993 version is sure showing its age which could be a good thing (avoiding photo radar and red light camera's)as it is getting hard to read. Not to mention that the many layers of "year labels" is starting to get a bit much.
Looks like we shall be getting a new design in the next year or two as the province is quickly running out of numbers to put on the existing plates. I thought I would take a trip back trough time to see what our current plates have evolved from. Not very impressive if you ask me. So based on what Rick Bell had to say in his article over at the Edmonton Sun today, I came up with this design, which does keep the wild rose in its current place. Basically my design is the 1973 version which uses the provincial colors, combined with the 1984 version, and changed out the "wild rose country" for the provinces actual motto of Strong and Free.

Warming temperatures could result in food shortages for 130 million people across Asia by 2050 and cause potentially catastrophic problems in Africa by wiping out one of the continent's staple crops altogether, according to a UN report released Tuesday.
I find that statement quit intriguing, as one of the wonderful solutions that the environuts have for saving the planet from global warming is using our food supply to feed our vehicles. Yes, rather than feeding the starving populations we shall use that food to make biofuel to feed our cars. Makes perfect sense now don't it.
I am always amazed that my generation survived with all the evil, dangerous things we had to eat not mention the dangerous playground equipment we had to endure.

Coming from a long line of Welsh coal miners who's stock and trade was blowing the crap out of things not to mention the son of a Sapper, I simply don't understand this. They blow up beaver dams all the time for the same reason. Why not do the same here or am I missing something? If we can implode sky scrapers without them wiping out the rest of the buildings near by, surely someone has the knowledge to blow a hole in some ice on a river. The war has just begun and the church of climatology has won a few of the battles so far, and will no doubt win several more. They use propaganda to convince the public how dire their cause is. Distorting and exaggerating the truth is the norm as is pushing for change that they claim will save our planet. Yet it seems that many of their cures are worse than the problem once you take a good look at them. The banning of the incandescent electric light bulb in favor of the compact fluorescent bulb, as it turns out, might yet be another one of those not so well thought out plans. Unless of course you have invested in the Chinese market that manufacturers most of the CF bulbs and don't mind the fact that China is doing nothing to help the cause of fighting the evil climate change.
I will admit that I personally had changed over to CFL's a couple years ago to try to lower my electric bill, and it did seem to work. Or did it? The one thing I forgot to account for was the fact that I went from being a two person household to a single person household at about the same time I switched over. My daughter moved out on her own so no more lights left on for no apparent reason, no more stereo's etc. operating 24/7. I have yet to replace a single one of them due to them breaking or burning out. As a result I have not added to the mercury problem that this change might cause. I will also note that Edmonton, being one of the leaders in this country in recycling, does have a program that excepts fluorescent bulbs at either of the two ECO Stations which helps, as long as people are not too lazy, as is often the case, to use them.
We shall just toss in a bunch of... if, could, maybe, possibly, projections, thought to be, likely, probable, chances are, computer models suggest, etc... just to cover our asses in the event that we are totally wrong.

CBC NEWS: An arrest warrant has been issued for former advertising executive Jean Lafleur, one of the key figures in the federal sponsorship scandal, who is facing fraud charges in relation to the program.
Lafleur, the former head of Lafleur Communication Marketing, is facing a 35-count fraud indictment over allegations related to 35 contracts worth $1.6 million.
I know its just pocket change and we should all just move on and all but gosh darn it, I am a conservative and I would really like to see a little more justice in this country.
Conveniently.... Lafleur is MIA and believed to be out of the country. What are the chances that he plans to return any time soon?
The folks at the "Church of Climatology" are really taking things over the deep end now. A large group including Green Peace, Friends of the Earth and four American cities have filed a lawsuit against the government over its funding of overseas projects that may contribute to climate change. The projects include a pipeline from Chad to Cameroon; oil and natural gas projects in Russia, Mexico, Venezuela and Indonesia; and a coal-fired power plant in China.
Whats even worse is that a federal judge has allowed the lawsuit to go ahead.
White accepted the plaintiffs' argument the National Environmental Policy Act, or NEPA, can apply to the U.S.-backed projects overseas. The law requires environmental assessments of proposed domestic projects. The administration had argued that the agencies were exempt from NEPA.
However, White said he did not have enough information to rule on the question of whether the projects at issue constitute a "major federal action" that would significantly affect the environment _ an important criteria for NEPA.
What I want to know is when is this group going to take China, India and other countries to court for their part. My guess is never, as they know they would be thrown in jail or at least laughed out of those countries for even thinking about it. Our western liberal justice system at work folks. Gotta love it.
There could be some truth in that old saying. Scientists in the UK and Canada have found that dirt could very well be good for you. Boosting the immune system as well as stimulating the brain to make you happy. This may explain why every kid in history has eaten at least one handful of dirt!

I have always had my doubts about the value of using the anti bacterial cleaners. My reasoning is basically what these scientists are saying. The more we expose ourselves to, the better off our immune systems will be. By over using anti bacterial cleaners we are not allowing our bodies to build up any resistance to the every day bacteria that we normally encounter day in and day out. I also suspect that those same bacteria build up a resistance to those cleaners and become the super bugs that are becoming more prevalent in our hospitals. I am no scientist by any means, but I do have a bit of common sense and logic left in me. Besides have you ever seen a avid gardener who was not happy muddling away in their dirt?

OTTAWA — Radical natives are listed in the Canadian army's counterinsurgency manual as a potential military opponent, lumping aboriginals in with the Tamil Tigers, Hezbollah and the Islamic Jihad.
The most recent protest by natives led to arrests and charges yesterday for three men connected to the blockade of Quebec's Highway 117 on March 12 and 13.
The highway is the Abitibi region's main link to the south, and the blockade caused major concern for the residents of Val-d'Or and Rouyn-Noranda.
Among those arrested was Guillaume Carle, the controversial leader of the recently formed Confederation of Aboriginal People of Canada. Mr. Carle led the protest of about 50 people, many of whom were carrying rifles.
Moral of the story... If you don't want to be mistaken for a duck, don't act like one...

Holding our current governments accountable, both morally and financially for deeds done many many many years ago, amounts to the same ridiculous assertions as I made above about my family. They were different times and I am sure that in a hundred years the people will look back and say the same kind of things about some of our decisions we make today.
You know politicians are over paid and under worked when they have nothing better to do than battle over a dead bear. Maybe we should just round up a few griz here in Canada and ship them over to these countries as we did for the USA in regards to wolves. Mind you, they would probably just shoot them all and have them stuffed so they could be placed in local museums.
Movie buffs and the older crowd will remember Clyde. He Co-Stared with Clint Eastwood in "Any Which Way But Loose" and "Any Which Way You Can". He has a message for all you "carbon burning fuel haters" out there. He does not speak any language that we mere humans can understand so he is using a universally known sign language.
He just wants you all to know how pissed off he is that your biofuel programs are wiping out his species.
A United Nations report has found that illegal logging and fires have been overtaken as the primary cause of deforestation by a huge expansion of oil palm plantations, which are racing to meet soaring demand from Western food manufacturers and the European Union's zeal for biofuels.
As is usually the case, the human solution of knee jerk reactions to a possible problem is doing more harm than good.
"The planet has a fever," former Vice President Al Gore complained to Congress Wednesday. "If your baby has a fever, you go to the doctor."
The problem is Earth has seen a slight temperature rise, comparable to someone running a temperature of 98 degrees instead of 97.3 degrees. The doctor doesn't get excited and says to start taking medication when the temperature is closer to 101 degrees.
After much scientific research, I think I have discerned the true cause of global warming.
When I was a young doctor just beginning practice, it was unusual for a man to come into my office weighing more than 200 pounds. Weights of 200 and up were in the professional football player strata. Ordinary humans didn't weigh that much.
Liberals prefer the religion of science, scientist saviors and nutcase professional failure Al Gore as their prophet... As for the rest of us, a good dose of common sense reality will keep the fruitcake fear-driven global nightmare freaks away.
I propose the following Excess Energy Consumption Tax (EECT): All residential electric and natural gas consumption taxes should be based upon excess energy use; after all, the point of raising taxes is to discourage excessive consumption to save the planet, right? Any excess energy consumption will be defined as being twice the national average consumption. All consumption in excess of the threshold will be taxed at the multiple of the national average rate of energy use.
Seems like a fair and logical way to go if you ask me. Distribute that wealth of yours Al. It's the right thing to do if you are truly concerned about the environment. Al Gore the prophet or Al Gore profits... which do you think he will chose in the end?
The Vancouver Sun is handing over the helm to David Suzuki on May 5th.
"What I would love to do is put a green slant in every area," he added, explaining he thinks the mainstream media do not do enough to highlight how the environment is connected to all areas of the news.
Obviously Suzuki does not pay much attention to the news these days. According to the MSM around the world, everything that happens in this day and age is a result of climate change. I am sure if I look hard enough, I could find a report to link the rain that fell on the evening of Princess Diana's death was in fact due to climate change and as a result was the cause of her death.
"You may get [stories] about floods in Bangladesh, drought in Ethiopia and forest fires in northern Alberta, and they are all reported as if they've got nothing to do with each other," he said, adding he would like to start making those connections.
Yo David, there is a reason they are reported this way. THEY ARE NOT CONNECTED in any way!
"One of the challenges we face is we are not seeing the world as a single entity and seeing how interconnected things are."
The planet is indeed a "single entity" and many thing are indeed "interconnected". However our "world" is far from a "single entity" although I am sure Suzuki and his fellow preachers like Maurice Strong and others would love to see that change. The term "One World Government" comes to mind.
Suzuki also said he wants to get green stories into the sports and arts and life sections.
I am not sure how BC Lions fans will react to more stories about the "Green and Gold" of Edmonton or that of the Green Bay Packers but hey if thats what Suzuki wants thats cool with me. I'm not sure how much GREEN art there is out there, but seeing my favorite color is green, I look forward to seeing more of it. I am not one to follow the fashion trends but is green still in vogue?
"What I would love to do is take something like a pizza and deconstruct the whole thing and trace it right back from the peppers to the onions to the trees that gave the paper for the box," he said.
I would like to see Suzuki take this even further. Follow that pizza completely through its cycle. Right through the digestive track, to its final destination in the waste treatment facility.
My final thought on this is... How can Mr Environment, David Suzuki, support this en devour for even one day, knowing how many trees will be wasted for the news print not to mention the energy it takes to publish his crap? Suzuki talks the talk but fails to walk the walk yet again.
Back on March 5th, I did a little post What a Waste of Time and Money about well, being lazy and saving the planet from the evil climate change. In that same post, I mentioned how Ed Stelmach was planning on investing the enviro cash coming from Ottawa on a "carbon dioxide pipeline" and what a waste of money that is. I also stated that spending that money on fighting the Mountain Pine Beetle would be money better spent. Guess someone knew there was other money coming down the pike for this en devour.....
VANCOUVER — Federal Natural Resources Minister Gary Lunn is making $24.8 million in pine beetle funding available immediately to British Columbia.
The money is for projects to help control the spread of the pine beetle along the B.C.-Alberta border.
I still think that the "Carbon Pipeline" is a waste of money, but at least I now know that something is being done about a REAL problem in our environment.
With out any help from regulations that the Liberals never did impose on business, but are now screaming out for now that they have discovered just how GREEN they are under Mr. Dolittle Dion, Suncore Energy of the infamous Alberta Oil sands has been named one of the 10 "Green Giants" by Fortune Magazine.
Fortune wrote: “In a survey of 23 global oil companies last year, Jantzi Research, a Canadian consultancy, named Suncor a top performer, noting its environmental and greenhouse-gas management programs. Specifically, it has improved emissions intensity (the amount of oil it extracts per ton of greenhouse gases emitted) 25 percent since 1990. Ditto for energy, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide. Suncor is part of an initiative to develop carbon-capture techniques. And while Suncor hopes to double its production by 2012, its water management is so advanced that it expects to draw no additional water from Alberta's Athabasca River.”
What most people do not remember, is that although the all mighty dollar is very important to all business en devours, so is survival. Believe it or not, the investors of these company's live on the same planet as the rest of us and have an interest in keeping it as healthy as possible while making those bucks. It makes no sense to be rich and dead...

Who was it that placed the lives of Canadian Soldiers in danger by canceling an order for new helicopters, forcing them to fly in known dangerous ,antiquated Sea Kings? Who was it that purchased USED submarines at a cut rate from the UK that placed Canadian military personnel at risk? Who was it that did not fund the Canadian military at a point that it was at least sustainable? Who was it that sent our troops to Afghanistan in uniforms that stood out so badly that the soldiers had to modify them on their own so they were not instant targets? Who is yelling and screaming about how Taliban prisoners are being treated, not by Canadians I might add, but by the people we are handing them over to? Those same prisoners that Ignatieff of all people should know, are NOT covered under the "Geneva Conventions" that Ignatieff wants us to uphold. The answer to all the above questions is, as PM Harper quite fairly stipulates in this quote...
"I can understand the passion that the leader of the Opposition and members of his party feel for the Taliban prisoners. I just wish occasionally they would show the same passion for Canadian soldiers."
The owner of the company I work for was kind enough to give me two tickets to the game tonight against Colorado. His seats are a couple of the best in all of Rexal Place I might add. So there My friend and I sat, in two of the best seats, watching one of the worst games of the season. I truly felt sorry for Roloson and Markkanen. They might as well have been out on the ice alone. Come to think of it, they were... the rest of the team never showed up.

Everything has its place and I know exactly where everything is. A benefit of being single! However, that place is usually one big pile... Hey it works for me, and apparently it works for a whole lot of other people too!

The problem with "Averaging" temperatures over a large area, is that is does not give you a clear picture of anything. Today we learned that this winter tied the second warmest Canadian "average" on record. What the hell does that mean? It means that some places in Canada where indeed warmer than "average" this winter. What it does not tell you is that some of Canada was colder than "average" as well. Canada is not in a bubble, where the temperature is spread out evenly throughout so an "average" temperature means nothing. Knowing that it was warmer in the Yukon does not do a thing for the prairie farmer when his cattle are freezing to death in central Alberta. Local weather is influenced by many factors, too many to calculate accurately. That is why a professional meteorologist has a hard time predicting what the weather will be in the next couple days never mind weeks, months or years in advance.
Lets move this topic up a notch to global "averages", instead of just Canadian "averages" shall we. Although one can argue that the earth is indeed in a bubble of sorts, and that the global "average" does effect the planet as a whole, it still does not disperse the temperature evenly throughout. Again an "average" global temperature does not give a clear picture of anything. Some places are cooler than average and some are warmer. The "average" may be warmer or cooler during any given period. We are currently going through a "average" warming period. 30 odd years ago we were going through an "average" cooling period, and before that a warming period, and before that a cooling period. Our weather is in a constant state of change. Locally we go from spring to summer to fall to winter and back to spring again on a yearly basis. Globally, the earth does a similar thing over a longer period of time. It is nature doing one of its balancing acts that it is required to do on an ongoing basis.
"It is impossible to talk about a single temperature for something as complicated as the climate of Earth", Bjarne Andresen says, an an expert of thermodynamics. "A temperature can be defined only for a homogeneous system. Furthermore, the climate is not governed by a single temperature. Rather, differences of temperatures drive the processes and create the storms, sea currents, thunder, etc. which make up the climate".
He explains that while it is possible to treat temperature statistically locally, it is meaningless to talk about a a global temperature for Earth. The Globe consists of a huge number of components which one cannot just add up and average. That would correspond to calculating the average phone number in the phone book. That is meaningless. Or talking about economics, it does make sense to compare the currency exchange rate of two countries, whereas there is no point in talking about an average 'global exchange rate'.
If temperature decreases at one point and it increases at another, the average will remain the same as before, but it will give rise to an entirely different thermodynamics and thus a different climate. If, for example, it is 10 degrees at one point and 40 degrees at another, the average is 25 degrees. But if instead there is 25 degrees both places, the average is still 25 degrees. These two cases would give rise to two entirely different types of climate, because in the former case one would have pressure differences and strong winds, while in the latter there would be no wind.
You can think globally all you want, but when you boil it all down, the only thing that really matters is local. Do I need to bundle up to go to work today or can I scare the hell out of everyone in my speedo?

The pair believe this damages the credibility of all climate scientists.
Both men hold the mainstream view on climate change - that human activity is the cause.
But they think catastrophism and the "Hollywoodisation" of weather and climate only work to create confusion in the public mind.
They argue for a more sober and reasoned explanation of the uncertainties about possible future changes in the Earth's climate.
I for one think it is about time that reputable scientists and researchers come forward and hold the MSM and others more accountable for their claims. Putting the "fear" into the public is not the way to convince them of anything. That only works on the weak minded and uninformed.
Part of Dion's new green plan is too place a carbon tax on industry.
The main thrust of Mr. Dion's new proposal is what he describes as a “carbon budget,” meaning companies will have to reduce their emissions in line with Canada's Kyoto target of six per cent below 1990 levels.
For each tonne of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gas that is emitted, companies would pay $20 into a green investment account. That price would rise to $30 by 2011 and companies could get their money back if they spend it on measures to reduce emissions.
Let me explain how this will work. Industry will pass on this cost to its customers, YOU and ME. The money will sit in an account garnishing interest that the government will keep for themselves to waste on useless programs. IF, and that is a big IF, a business does actually reduce there output of green house gases, it will get its money back based on that reduction.
So the government will get to keep its money for nothing and say "look at what a good responsible earth loving green government we are!" You and I will pay the cost for the business's which may even get some or all of that money back in time. Who the hell is going to give us OUR money back Mr. Dion? A very profitable scam for the government and possibly the business's at the little peoples expense as per usual.

Ministers yesterday promised deep cuts to greenhouse gas emissions that they warned would mean everyone in the country having to 'live, work and travel differently'.
Unveiling the plans, Environment Secretary David Miliband said it would be "painful" to continue to have an "energy inefficient home". Those that did would face higher bills, he added.
Transport will also undergo radical overhaul as Britain moves towards becoming a "low- carbon economy", the Government said.
Vehicles will be made more fuel efficient, effectively forcing current gas-guzzling models off the road.
Opposition politicians and green campaigners said the Government's proposals did not go far enough

Some of the people that support the "man made global warming" theory are now asking that those of the extremist type turn it down a notch or two. Is Al Gore and David Suzuki listening? Something tells me not.
Now one of the people who was a star of the recently shown The Great Global Warming Swindle, a documentary that disputes Al Gores version of the "TRUTH", has come out to say he was swindled and his contribution to the show was taken out of context.
His change of heart would not possibly have anything to do with the threats made to some others who have come out against the "TRUTH" now could it? Maybe it is not that serious. Perhaps someone just threatened him with a lack of funding to head his way for further studies? Not like it would be the first time something like that had happened.
PM Harper is pandering to the Kyoto masses and soon will be announcing the governments new plan to reduce green house gases. Will it be as level headed as Harper has proven to be so far or will he follow all the other politicians down the green brick road no matter the cost?

As I mentioned Here on Monday, a new documentary on global warming aired yesterday on BBC channel 4, "The Great Global Warming Swindle". Spiked-online editor Brendan O’Neill, has a long op-ed on the show and its director, Martin Durkin. Its worth a READ. I am still hoping that a Canadian broadcaster might find enough of a backbone to air this program here in Canada, but I am not going to hold my breath. Bits and pieces of the show are showing up on youtube as I write this. Curently there are 5 6 parts posted that I can find, making up about 15 minutes of the 90 minute documentary. To all those who would like to shut down the oil sands projects in Alberta to "save the planet" from the evil climate change.
You want to remove billions of dollars from Canada's economy and at the same time you also want to spend billions of dollars to clean up our mere 3% contribution of CO2 emissions. If you should succeed in shutting down our evil oil industry, where do you think we will get the oil we need for fuels and the manufacturing of many other products that are oil based? We will have to spend billions more to buy oil from other countries and ship it to our shores. How much CO2 will all those ships spew into the air to bring us what we have right here in Alberta?

If we truly want to account for the petroleum factor, steel cannot be made the way it is today. Aluminum is even more energy intensive, and that leaves us with a wad of copper wire sitting in the driveway, resting on our jute ‘rug’. John, now completely discombobulated, runs for the door of his home.
Unfortunately, the steel hinges and doorknobs are missing. When he touches the door it falls inward; his carpeting has disappeared, and the house is really hot and dark. It seems air conditioners are made from aluminum and steel, as are most appliances. Johns’ local Power Company uses clean, non-polluting natural gas to generate their electricity, so let’s kill all the power to the house. He is relieved to see his toilet still sitting there, but everything electronic and electrical has become a tangled mass of copper wires and circuit boards.
Water is spraying out of the ground, because John’s house was plumbed with POLY VINYL CHLORIDE (PVC) pipe, which is a 100% petroleum product. His furniture has turned into skeleton-like wooden frames, as the materials and padding used to make couches and chairs are long lasting, man-made fibers derived from petroleum. Rancid goop is oozing out of every cabinet in the kitchen, and everything that was in his refrigerator is slumped into a pile only a garbologist could be proud of. It seems that 90% of the packaging materials we use today are made from (you guessed it) petroleum.
His fresh vegetables and many of his canned goods are gone. John suddenly remembers reading an article about fertilizer and pesticide shortages. It seems these are also made almost exclusively from petroleum, and without them, modern mass-farming techniques are not viable. Crop yields are down, and the cost of trucking lettuce from California and Washington to other places is just too high.
And if you think this hurts, imagine everything you ever bought from a department store vanishing – because they were ALL IMPORTED from cheap-labor “elsewheres” using petroleum as fuel.
Forget all plastic – it is 100% petroleum.
Toss out computers and electronics as we know them today – we don’t have the insulating materials to build them without petroleum. We don’t have the massive electrical capacity to build anything really high tech – the cost of oil or natural gas to fuel the power grid has become too high.
Space travel? Forget it – the hydrogen used to power the shuttle is derived from petroleum, and it will not fly without the electronics and guidance system. And all the aluminum and titanium and other special alloys each require extremely energy intensive manufacturing processes, which use too much electricity that comes from gas and oil fired power plants.
I hope this makes you think just a little about the true effects of declining petroleum.
Care to explain to me now why you want to shut down Alberta's oil industry? It just does not make sense in any way shape or form.
Canada is a haven for criminals from other countries. Our system makes it hell for foreign countries to enforce extradition treaties we have signed with them.
How Canada deals with these and other fugitives is heavily influenced by politics, judicial activism and high-powered extradition lawyers. These and other factors combine to build delays into the Canadian process that throw it out of sync with its treaty partners.
Why do we even allow these people into our country in the first place? What is this costing the tax payers to keep these undesirables in our country? Give them a one way ticket back to where they came from to face the music for the crimes they are accused of.
I am convinced the prophets of doom have to be taken seriously.
We may get to the point where the only way of saving the world will be for industrial civilization to collapse.
Isn't the only hope for the planet that the industrialized civilizations collapse? Isn't it our responsibility to bring about?
I do wish I could assist my many friends and colleagues in all the organizations I belong to, to remake the political and economic landscape.
Also, it is interesting that developing countries, with China and India perhaps in the lead, where the future of the global environment will be decided are now on board with the case for sustainable development.
A shift is necessary toward lifestyles less geared to environmental damaging consumption patterns.
After all, sustainability means running the global environment - Earth Inc. - like a corporation: with depreciation, amortization and maintenance accounts. In other words, keeping the asset whole, rather than undermining your natural capital.
Licences to have babies incidentally is something that I got in trouble for some years ago for suggesting even in Canada that this might be necessary at some point, at least some restriction on the right to have a child..
One of the things that I've always thought I would like to do is to develop an environmental index. Then people can measure their own environmental performance on an index as they do in other ways.
The Earth Charter is important as an expression of the commitment of people throughout the Earth to evoke their own deepest moral, spiritual and ethical principles in the task of ensuring a sustainable future for those who inhabit the Earth now and those who will follow us on the Earth.
What if a small group of these word leaders were to conclude that the principle risk to the earth comes from the actions of the rich countries? And if the world is to survive, those rich countries would have to sign an agreement reducing their impact on the environment. Will they do it?
I propose a new kind of commission be established -- a World Climate Commission. It would be permanent in nature, unlike previous commissions that addressed more limited issues and disbanded after making their reports.
OK, I spent the whole weekend doing my part to save the planet. I made zero effort to do anything that would use up any energy at all. I feel so much better now that I have done my part. Not to mention that I think I have finally gotten rid of that bug that was nagging me for the past week or so. Now if I could only get rid of the bigger bug that is infecting the planet, or at least a large portion of the humans occupying the planet. Kyoto/Human caused Climate Change, the newest plague to infect the brains of humans. It is far worse than BSE is to cattle. Kyoto does not effect the nervous system as does BSE, it goes right to the brain and wipes out all common sense.
It is nice to see some in the main stream are starting to give the "Deniers™" some air time. A new Documentary is set to air Thursday March 8th in the UK. I hope it makes it's way to the airwaves here very soon.

Seeing that the topic has come up in the quote above of Inconvenient Truths, how can one ignore this little tidbit in regards to how rushing to find other sources of fuel, eg. ethanol, are not well thought out by the "Oil Industry and Human Haters Club™".
But a growing number of economists, scientists and environmentalists are calling for a "time out" and warning that the headlong rush into massive ethanol production is creating more problems than it is solving.
Now given the choice of what to do with 1.5 billion dollars, I know that this would be one of the last things I would be wasting it on.

I personaly think that money would be far better spent fighting the Mountain Pine Beetle that is wiping out our northwest pine forests at an alarming rate. Money spent fighting something that is real and not just a hypothesis. What a novel idea.
My posts have been few in the past few days as I have decided to join in on saving the planet from the scourge known as climate change. I know its hard to believe but it is true. I am conserving my personal energy in many ways and you too can save the planet by using this simple technique. Just be too frickin lazy to get up and turn on a light, TV, radio, computer, or anything else that requires a form of energy to operate. Simply refuse to move your butt to the kitchen and cook yourself a good meal. Don't even think of reaching for the phone and calling up your favorite food delivery service. The most heinous thing one can do is to go to work. Thats right, all that wasted energy keeping all those lights on and the building warm. All those computers, printers, fax machines, phones, coffee machines ect... simply wasting energy and killing the planet. The best way you can save the planet is by doing absolutely nothing. Just ask Al Ignore.
