The Associated Press
PARIS -- The Dakar Rally, the epic motorcycle, car and truck race across the Sahara desert, was cancelled Friday by organizers citing "direct'' threats of terrorism from al Qaeda-linked militants.
How much do you want to bet that the organizers never asked the racers whether or not they still wanted to race. I would bet that the vast majority would have voted in favor of going ahead with the race. Perhaps bonus points for every terrorist that they ran over or killed in some other less glorified manner. They might even want to make a movie about it...

Do Ducks Quack?
I have seen this line used several times as of late in many blogs and it does seem fitting for this post as well.
If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and waddles like a duck then surely it is a duck!
BILL CURRY
From Saturday's Globe and Mail
OTTAWA — Radical natives are listed in the Canadian army's counterinsurgency manual as a potential military opponent, lumping aboriginals in with the Tamil Tigers, Hezbollah and the Islamic Jihad.
The most recent protest by natives led to arrests and charges yesterday for three men connected to the blockade of Quebec's Highway 117 on March 12 and 13.
The highway is the Abitibi region's main link to the south, and the blockade caused major concern for the residents of Val-d'Or and Rouyn-Noranda.
Among those arrested was Guillaume Carle, the controversial leader of the recently formed Confederation of Aboriginal People of Canada. Mr. Carle led the protest of about 50 people, many of whom were carrying rifles.
Moral of the story... If you don't want to be mistaken for a duck, don't act like one...

FLQ

The FLQ aka... Frontal Lobotomy Quislings, have apparently raised their ugly heads again in Quebec.
Updated Fri. Jan. 19 2007 7:34 AM ET
Canadian Press
MONTREAL -- The RCMP is taking "very seriously'' a recent threatening letter signed by a group claiming to be a new cell of the FLQ, a Quebec terrorist group active in the 1960s and 1970s.
The letter, dated Jan. 15, says "strategic targets of importance'' will be targeted in the western, largely English-speaking part of Montreal between Feb. 15 and March 15.
The letter, which is signed: "FLQ, Camille-Laurin Cell,'' is the second of its kind. The first one was received on Nov. 15, 2006.
As if we didn't have enough to worry about with Climate Change, the Taliban, Iran, North Korea and all the other quacks out there. Wonder if Harper will fulfill the liberal prophecy of "Soldiers with guns, in our cities, in Canada"? It worked for Trudeau...
