Consequences

Could THIS have anything to do with This?

Last time I checked, the Canadian Coast Guard are the enforcers of the law in our waters. The crew of the Farley Mowat were ordered to leave the area. They obviously did not follow those orders. Surprise, surprise...

Paul Watson seems to think his little group is above Canadian law. Guess what Paul. It just does not matter what flag you fly. Your ship was in Canadian waters and therefore subject to Canadian laws.

Now come the consequences for their actions. And it is about time.

Paul Watson, head of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society said the actions of the Coast Guard amount to “an act of war.”

If it is, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society just lost.

Welcome to the New Canada. One that actually has some balls!

I tried posting these comments on another site to no avail. Here they are:

Does it matter if the Farley Mowat was in international waters (in the Gulf of St. Lawrence)? Just because a boat may cross Hazard County line, that does not mean an alleged group of people is safe from the law. Think about those poor Canadian men who go to Thailand and other parts of Asia to sexually abuse children. Should Canadian law not touch the men as they may have allegedly touched the kiddies outside of Canada?

I don't like the thought of sealers masssacring 275,000 cute and cuddly little baby seals. I'll express my choice in the next federal election. I also do not like the thought of people threatening the safety and lives of others. Welcome back to Hazard County, Farley.

Ok...I'll remind you of that when thousands of children go hungry because their parents lost their jobs in an economically depressed region, and the 275,000 "cute and cuddly little baby seals" have just ballooned into over 1,000,000+ full grown seals in a just a few short years, that wipe out all the fish, and the federal government has no choice but to close the fisheries putting thousands out of work, losing their homes and putting families on welfare.

Sounds like a good NDP plan to me....

Although I don't really like your comparing this with child molesters, nor do I consider the seal hunt a massacre, I will agree with your premise.

I take from your statement that you are a vegan. You must be, or does the fact that other animals are not "cute and cuddly" make it more acceptable to slaughter to feed, cloth and make other products for the world?

The seal hunt like many other issues is about management. We humans may not be all that great at doing it, but it is necessary.

You are 100% correct.
It simply amazes me how people equate "cute and cuddly" with these issues like it has any bearing on the facts.

I find all animals in the wild beautiful, even majestic. It won't stop me from pulling the trigger though.

I watched Bambi to, I got over it.

Hey- don't get me wrong, I love animals too...(you kind of have to growing up out in the middle of the toolies) But their are times that we either have to choose between putting food on the table, or letting a species grow out of control and devastating a whole region.

I never "got you wrong"... I agreed with you before and still do. As i said above. It is about management. I know that at times we mere humans have sucked at doing it, but for the most part we do a pretty good job.

I still have a problem with Alberta's fishing regulations. I think they are very short sighted. Anyone who knows anything about the fisheries knows that it is the larger females that do the best job of reproducing. Yet, our regulations insist that we KEEP those fish if we are going to keep any. I firmly believe that there should be a slot limit. In regards to walleye, I believe it should be in the smaller range. 15 to 18 inches. They are the best eating I might add...lol We should be leaving the larger, best reproducing fish to do their jobs.

Hey Tim. Actually it was just the way I ended up writing that last post. I never had any doubt about what you said. That was just me trying to write and keep the kids out of my hair at the same time... LOL!

Oh sure, blame the kids!... ;)
