Bigger not Better

308 to 330 by 2014?

Canada's three fastest-growing provinces would get more seats in the House of Commons by 2014 under legislation proposed by the Conservative government on Friday.

Under the bill, Ontario would get 10 more members of Parliament, British Columbia would get seven and Alberta would get five.

Just what we need. 22 more occupants in Canada's largest daycare center. This will only cost you, the tax payer, a minimum of $3,410,000.00 per year. Add that to the $47,740,000.00 in yearly salaries we already pay, which does not include the extra amount for being a "minister of something" and you get $51,150,000.00 per year. That is one hefty daycare bill if you ask me. So, when are these people going to grow up, quit acting like spoiled children and show that they are deserving of the wages we pay them?

It's that friggin' guarantee of 75 seats to Quebec; otherwise, they could redistribute.

It is not just the guarantee to Quebec that is a problem. The over abundance of MP's compared to population, also extends to the maritime provinces. The whole system is flawed. Adding more MP's to Ontario, Alberta and BC will not fix the real problems.

From what I've been reading, Mulroney is to blame (big surprise) - no province can have fewer MPs than Senators, and he loaded up the Senate to pass the GST (or was it NAFTA? or both?). I actually read on someone's blog a comment saying that it is CERTAINLY fair that PEI get four MPs, but really, the 3 Territories really only need one.

Yup.
