Seriously. Is there a single brain cell anywhere in the collective known as Hamas? What do you expect is going to happen when you randomly launch a couple hundred mortars and rockets at your heavily armed neighbour?
What do they call it when you continue to do the exact same thing over and over and expect to get a different result?
Reminds me of a few kids I knew growing up...

They sit back in their boardrooms, trying to devise ways to put the fear into the general public. "The sky is falling" is their drug. Climate change was faltering and fewer subjects were falling for this false science. They needed something new.
A recession, naaaah, that is so 1980's. What we need is a good dirty thirties style depression. Yes, that is what we need for sure. A few months of doom and gloom regarding the economy and TADA! Here we are... at least in the minds of the public. It does not matter what the facts are, as long as the perception is there.
Canadians are adopting a bleak recessionary mood, even though the numbers are not that grim, an economist says.
The Conference Board of Canada reported Monday that its index of consumer confidence has reached the lowest level since the recession of 1981-82. Yet the actual economic indicators are not that bad in Canada, compared with the United States, Europe and Japan, said Glen Hodgson, senior vice-president and chief economist.
"The bad news is out there," but now "it's become very personal," he said.
The index fell for the third month in a row in December, dropping 3.3 points to 67.7. The lowest point was 63 in the recession of 1981-82, Hodgson said. In the board's system, the index was at 100 in 2002.
The psychology of bad times is reflected in consumers' expectations that they will be worse off six months from now. "Respondents also viewed the job situation in their communities negatively," the board said.
Yet the latest employment statistics, for November, show that the country added 133,000 jobs in the first 11 months of 2008. [...]

The potential penalty, 36 billion euros ($46 billion) for the group based on current permit prices, and the fact that only a minority of 37 Kyoto signatory nations may meet their pledges bodes poorly for international efforts to limit global warming.
Please save the global economy from sliding into recession. Hug every tree you see.
You may want to ask Dion if Kyoto will have a barking session with the culprit.

My daughter gave birth to a itty bitty baby boy at 7:49 PM yesterday. I say itty bitty as he is only 4 pounds 15 ounces and is 19 1/2" long. No, not premature at all. Her due date was Sept. 11. Mom, baby, daddy and gramps are all doing fine.
I did not miss not having the internet to waste away my time over the past couple weeks either. I had better things to do. Enjoying nothing but fresh air, sunshine, wildlife galore and most of all... FISHING! I probably averaged 9 hours a day out on the lake catching walleye, perch and the biggest Northern Pike of my life. Nothing like fighting a big fish on light tackle. I was actually fishing for and catching walleye at the time I caught this one. I was only using my medium action rod with 8 pound test line spooled on my spinning reel, a quarter ounce fuzzy grub jig with a leach. Let me say that Shimano makes a fine drag system on this reel! She almost stripped me clean of line twice and also managed to tow the boat a good 400 yards out into the depths of the lake. She measured 44 inches long, and about 17 inches in girth. I say about, as it is not easy to hold a 25 plus pound pike in one hand and try to measure it with the other. Not to mention she really was not very cooperative. Roxy my faithful fish hound was not too excited about having this beast in our little 12 foot boat either. In this case, two was company and three definitely made it a bit crowded.
Much to the dismay of many of the old timers up at Fawcett lake, once I had the measurements and a single not so good picture, I released her back into the lake to go along her merry way. I will in time have a graphite mount done of her for the cabin wall. It should look great right beside my 32 inch walleye that I caught a few years ago.
And why should we when even your parents did not care enough to keep you away from serious harm allowing you to play soldier?
You quit being a "child" the day you picked up a gun and started playing war games. Your age no longer mattered at that point. You wanted to act like a man then, so now you get to continue to play that role. You should consider yourself lucky to be alive, never mind be free to roam as you wish in Canada. Being a "man" sucks don't it.
Everyone that bought a new LCD flat screen monitor and or TV to save money on electricity and to save the planet from the evil CO2 raise your hands. Now go give yourself fifty lashes you earth destroying evironMENTAL nightmare of a person!

I wrote some time ago that Syncrude should have immediately sat down and wrote out a cheque for a million dollars and fire it off to Ducks Unlimited after the disaster at one of its tailing ponds that killed 500 ducks. Now it looks more and more like they will indeed be writing a million dollar cheque. Unfortunately it will be made out to the Alberta government instead to pay the fines levied against them.
The decision on charges against the company that operates the pond, Syncrude Canada Ltd., is expected to be made by the end of August, said Stewart.
“The maximum penalty for this under the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act is a $1-million fine,” he said.
They should have taken my advice. It would have been great PR. This, not so much...
Speaking of dead ducks...
CALGARY — Federal Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion rode into the heart of cowboy country Friday to lasso support for his green plan in a province that snorts at any whiff of the old national energy program. [...]
There is an understatement if I ever heard one...
[...] Mr. Dion's arrival coincided with the start of the Calgary Stampede — the annual 10-day celebration of cowboy culture in the heart of Canada's oil country. His visit raised some eyebrows even before he arrived. One political cartoon in a newspaper showed him on a spit roasting over a fire. “If Westerners are so upset, why have I been invited to so many of their barbecues?” read the caption. [...]
The production of biofuels has driven up food prices 75 per cent, according to an unpublished World Bank report obtained by the Guardian.
In an article published Friday, the British daily cites a confidential report authored by Don Mitchell, a senior economist at the bank. The newspaper suggests the report has not been released so as not to embarrass U.S. President George Bush, whose government had suggested biofuels accounted for a three per cent increase in food prices.
"Without the increase in biofuels, global wheat and maize stocks would not have declined appreciably and price increases due to other factors would have been moderate," the report said, according to the Guardian.
The report also said changing diets in developing countries and a drought in Australia were not significant factors in driving up the price of food — which increased 140 per cent between 2002 and February 2008, according to the report.
Instead, a large-scale push in the U.S. and the European Union (EU) to convert food crops to biofuel has tightened supplies and raised financial speculation, said the report. [...]
What boggles my brain is that they needed to "study" this to figure it out. It was pretty obvious to anyone with a bit of common sense. Then again, common sense is not very common, especially in the environMENTAList community.
If an environMENTAList dies in a tree in the forest, does anyone care?
Here is my advice... Do the exact opposite of what the fear mongering environMENTALists say and you cannot go wrong.

Update: This just in.... 'Green rage' is hitting Brits All this fuss over so called global warming. Won't they be eating crow when it all falls apart in front of their false alters and prophets...
Not everyone has jumped on the "anti tar sands" bandwagon. Some people realize you can't put the cart ahead of the horse. Reality is, there is currently NO viable replacement for oil at this time. Someday there will be, but right now it simply does not exist. For those of you who think you are saving the planet by using so called clean electric powered motors, whether they be in your car, lawnmower, or whatever, I ask of you one thing. Where does the electricity come from to power those motors? Chances are pretty good it comes from some dirty coal or gas fired power plant that is increasing its output to accommodate your extra usage. Keep on fooling yourselves...
For those of you who believe hydrogen powered vehicles are the answer, I have more questions. What portion of the upper atmosphere contributes more to so called global warming, CO2 or water vapor? What byproduct does hydrogen power produce? Let me help you out a bit. The answer for both is the same.
If some evil force decided to nuke Canada into oblivion and there by eliminating all of our CO2 contribution to the planet, it would hardly be negligible in the big picture. Yet some people think we should pay a heavy price now, even though we have no alternative to run our vehicles, heat our homes or power our lights. Dion will get your green and you will get the shaft. There is no "shift" here. Dion claims that his policy will be revenue neutral. That may be the case for the government, but it surely won't be for your bank account. His claim that his plan will not effect the price of gasoline is garbage. It puts a price on carbon and gasoline is one of those sources. It may not be directly placed on gas so technically he is not lying but he is seriously trying to pull the wool over your eyes. Wool you will be needing badly come those cold winter months when you are forced to turn down your thermostat even further so you can afford to pay the bills. The price of gas will go up reflecting the added cost of oil production due to Dions green shift plan, don't be fooled.
There is an old adage, "If you got it, it came by truck". I challenge you to name one possession of yours that at some point was not in the back of a truck. Your food, clothing, furniture, appliances, even your dental floss at some point was moved by truck. EVERYTHING is going to cost you more,EVERYTHING. This will be over and above the already steady increases we are seeing now in the market. How much more can we afford? You can only cut back so much before you have to start going without something.
Some people don't want Canada's (read Alberta and Saskatchewans) dirty oil. Good luck with that! Let me know how much more you are paying to have that black gold shipped from the middle east to meet the demand. Meanwhile we will just ship our oil to where it is welcomed. The oil tanker companies will laughing all the way to the bank, while spewing tons of CO2 into the air as they cruise back and forth across our oceans. How ironic!
Lastly, lets see what happens if Alberta actually is forced to play its Wild Card. You think prices are high now? Just you wait and see what will happen if this should come about. I seem to recall someone saying something about some people freezing in the dark way back when. I think that was the "Profit" Ralph was it not? It was a very popular bumper sticker regardless...
Wake up people. Use that brain matter to see that tree in the forest. Let your common sense prevail and don't believe all the crap you are fed on a daily basis by people who simply want to take your money for no other reason than that they think they know how to spend it better than you do. People who have way more money than you I might add...
Is Canada's "New government " out of its frickin' mind? I am no greenie, nor am I an EnvironMENTAList but I certainly do enjoy our great outdoors. Who in their right minds would even consider this never mind think it is an acceptable solution to dispose of tailing wastes from mines. Give your heads a shake people.
CBC News has learned that 16 Canadian lakes are slated to be officially but quietly "reclassified" as toxic dump sites for mines. The lakes include prime wilderness fishing lakes from B.C. to Newfoundland.
Environmentalists say the process amounts to a "hidden subsidy" to mining companies, allowing them to get around laws against the destruction of fish habitat.
Under the Fisheries Act, it's illegal to put harmful substances into fish-bearing waters. But, under a little-known subsection known as Schedule Two of the mining effluent regulations, federal bureaucrats can redefine lakes as "tailings impoundment areas." [...]
Out go the lights... and everything else that depends on electricity.
Whichever way it is looked at, Britain is threatened by what, thanks to years of dereliction and misjudgment, has become arguably our most serious potential crisis of modern times.
Politically, the blame for this astounding mess lies in all directions - with the Tories, with Labour, with Brussels, with those smugly shortsighted 'environmentalists'.
But all that matters now is that we put the need to avert this disaster right at the top of our national political agenda.
We need to get on with solving as terrifying a problem as our politicians have ever faced.
Not physically speaking of course, as it is a tad cool for this time of year and my ass has been cold for the most part.

Winter-like weather returned to the Northwest as snow fell across the state Tuesday including on Mount Hood where drivers were dealing with unusual weather for this time of year.
And while it didn't cause major problems, most people were asking, "What happened to spring?"
The snowfall at Timberline Tuesday was amazing, blowing snow and ice most of the day. There was packed snow and ice on the roadway that turned to slush in some spots and the trees were coated thickly.
Even though the Fourth of July is less than a month away to many it seemed more like February.
I hate to burst your bubble on this "historic day" Prime Minister Harper. However, you did not apologize for "all Canadians" today. A whole lot of us have nothing to apologize for. Our ancestors had nothing to do with any of this and neither did we, yet we shall pay with our tax dollars in yet another feel good deed by our government.
Last month, polar bears were listed as threatened under the US Endangered Species Act because their sea ice habitat is melting away... (That melting part is still up for debate. Just like the whole Global Warming, we are all going to die thing.)
The first polar bear to been seen in Iceland in 20 years was SHOT DEAD!
Sorry for the lack of posts and or responses to comments. I have been a tad busy working out in the yard here in the shitty city as well as up at the cabin. I have managed to squeeze in a few hours of fishing as well... :)
Posting might resume come Monday. Have a great weekend!
[...] For electricity generation, the EIA concludes that solar energy is subsidized to the tune of $24.34 per megawatt hour, wind $23.37 and "clean coal" $29.81. By contrast, normal coal receives 44 cents, natural gas a mere quarter, hydroelectric about 67 cents and nuclear power $1.59. [...]
[...] The same study also looked at federal subsidies for non-electrical energy production, such as for fuel. It found that ethanol and biofuels receive $5.72 per British thermal unit of energy produced. That compares to $2.82 for solar and $1.35 for refined coal, but only three cents per BTU for natural gas and other petroleum liquids.
All of this shows that there is a reason fossil fuels continue to dominate American energy production: They are extremely cost-effective. That's a reality to keep in mind the next time you hear a politician talk about creating millions of "green jobs." Those jobs won't come cheap, and you'll be paying for them.
Interesting... {moves branches to the left... peeks out) verrrrrrry interesting...
How far back do we go with all these apologies? They were different times with different prevailing ideologies. We cannot logically judge now the decisions made by past governments, 94, nor 50, 40 or even 30 years ago.
Why does Harper insist on apologizing for all the past deeds done by past governments of this country? Other than pandering for votes that is...
Mr. Harper, let me help you out here.
We the government of Canada, apologize to every person in the past, present and future that we may have offended or will offend, for any and all reasons. Send one dollar to every person on the planet for compensation (cause we know it's not about the money... right...), as I am sure that somewhere, somehow, we have offended every single one of them or their ancestors. That would be somewhere between 6 and 7 billion dollars by the way (which sounds a lot better than mere millions)... and lets call it a done deal.

On Friday, The Wall Street Journal published a report that suggested closer ties between Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and rebels attempting to overthrow Colombia's government. Chavez has been linked to Colombian rebels previously, but the paper reported it had reviewed computer files indicating concrete offers by Venezuela's leader to arm guerillas. That appears to heighten the chances that the U.S. could impose sanctions on one of its biggest oil suppliers.
I am sure, most Albertans would much rather see our so called "dirty" oil go to the U.S. than anywhere else. I am also sure most Americans would rather buy our oil than from some slimy dictator...
The House of Commons unanimously passed a motion on Friday sending the Burmese government to its room where it can watch TV and play video games. Mind you it was without supper or dessert.
Using tragedy to advance an agenda has been a strategy for many global warming activists, and it was just a matter of time before someone found a way to tie the recent Myanmar cyclone to global warming.
Former Vice President Al Gore in an interview on NPR’s May 6 “Fresh Air” broadcast did just that. He was interviewed by “Fresh Air” host Terry Gross about the release of his book, “The Assault on Reason,” in paperback.
“And as we’re talking today, Terry, the death count in Myanmar from the cyclone that hit there yesterday has been rising from 15,000 to way on up there to much higher numbers now being speculated,” Gore said. “And last year a catastrophic storm from last fall hit Bangladesh. The year before, the strongest cyclone in more than 50 years hit China – and we’re seeing consequences that scientists have long predicted might be associated with continued global warming.”
Gore claimed global warming is forcing ocean temperatures to rise, which is causing storms, including cyclones and hurricanes, to intensify. (emphasis mine) [...]
Now remember Al stated this on May 6th of 2008. Lets take a look at what has been written on the subject of ocean temperatures prior to that date shall we...
[...] D'Aleo suggests that the IPCC has greatly underestimated the role of oceans in climate shifts. Although he believes the sun is probably the ultimate driver, the meterologist says oceans correlate far better with temperature change than any other factor. D'Aleo points out that this year's shift from a warm El Nino current in the Pacific Ocean to a "super-cold La Nina" coincides with the biggest temperature drop in the entire weather record.
Media attention will soon shift from ice melt and warming to what D'Aleo calls WMD (weather of mass destruction). He forecasts an increase in hurricanes, colder weather, heavier snowfalls and more flooding due to persistent La Ninas over the next few decades. Because sensationalism sells, the television weatherman thinks the media and climate alarmists will blame these new events on man-made change. Not true, in his view, because similar weather events occurred from the 1940s through the 1960s when the Pacific Ocean last went through a cooling cycle. [...]
[...] A cool-water anomaly known as La Niña occupied the tropical Pacific Ocean throughout 2007 and early 2008. In April 2008, scientists at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory announced that while the La Niña was weakening, the Pacific Decadal Oscillation-a larger-scale, slower-cycling ocean pattern-had shifted to its cool phase. [...]
Unlike El Niño and La Niña, which may occur every 3 to 7 years and last from 6 to 18 months, the PDO can remain in the same phase for 20 to 30 years. The shift in the PDO can have significant implications for global climate, affecting Pacific and Atlantic hurricane activity, droughts and flooding around the Pacific basin, the productivity of marine ecosystems, and global land temperature patterns. [...]
[...] The most dramatic evidence, however, emerged last week with an announcement by Nasa's Jet Propulsion Laboratory that an immense slow-cycling movement of water in the Pacific, known as the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO), had unexpectedly shifted into its cool phase, something which only happens every 30 years or so, ultimately affecting climate all over the globe.
Discussion of this on the invaluable Watts Up With That website, run by the US meteorologist Anthony Watts, shows how the alternations of the PDO between warm and cool coincided with each of the major temperature shifts of the 20th century - warming after 1905, cooling after 1946, warming again after 1977 - and how the new shift to a cool phase could have repercussions for decades to come.
It is notable that the German computer predictions published last week by Nature forecast a decade of cooling due to deep-ocean movements in the Atlantic, without taking account of how this may now be reinforced by a similar, even greater movement in the Pacific. [...]
[...] One of the most telling signs invalidating the predictions of catastrophic global warming is the expansion of Arctic sea ice. After a supposed record thaw, the ice has returned. A report from the Canadian Ice Service, which has kept records on sea ice since 1972, noted above-average coverage of the Arctic. Gilles Langis, a forecaster with the Ice Service, said the ice also is 10 to 20 cm thicker in most places. The report from the Ice Service was corroborated by the Denmark Meteorological Institute, which said the sea ice between Greenland and Canada was at its most expansive in 15 years.
“The nice thing about sea ice is that there is no analysis needed,” Stan Goldenberg, a meteorologist with NOAA’s hurricane research division, told Baptist Press in an interview. “This is raw data. You can look at the levels and see that it is colder. [...]
I wonder how long it will take for Al to come up with a way to link this to "Global Warming". It makes as much sense as does his comment regarding the Myanmar Cyclone.
A new study of consumer habits and how they affect the environment has given Canadians a dismal ranking of second-last in a list of 14 countries. [...]
[...] Environment Minister John Baird called the study a "wake-up call," [...]
It is a wake up call alright. Anyone with any common sense will look at this study and go... WTF? Lets take China as an example. How many Chinese citizens can actually afford to own a large home, air conditioning, a vehicle or two, and actually purchase many of their products from large box store type outlets? This study is a joke... And the Chinese have such a great environment... right... moving on...
I love this line from the article...
In total, 29 per cent of Canadians have nine or more rooms in their homes, use insulation and heat their homes -- and rarely choose environmentally friendly heating options. (emphasis mine again)
Again... WTF? LMAO... could you imagine what our heating bills would look like without the use of insulation? What other method other than "heating our homes" would they suggest to keep us all from freezing to death when it is minus 40 celcius without the wind chill? These people are nuts!
The United Nations says it will investigate Canada for failing to meet a Kyoto Protocol deadline on greenhouse gas reporting and could bar it from an international carbon-trading scheme if the probe finds Ottawa broke the rules. [...](emphasis mine)

The latest joke is to blame shark attacks. Yes you read that correctly.
[...] Some experts suggest that an abundance of seals has attracted high numbers of sharks, while others believe that overfishing has hit their food chain. 'I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but it's a convenient excuse,' Burgess said. Another contributory factor to the location of shark attacks could be global warming and rising sea temperatures. 'You'll find that some species will begin to appear in places they didn't in the past with some regularity,' he said. [...] (emphasis mine)
[...] Researchers studying long-term changes in sea temperatures said they now expect a "lull" for up to a decade while natural variations in climate cancel out the increases caused by man-made greenhouse gas emissions. The average temperature of the sea around Europe and North America is expected to cool slightly over the decade while the tropical Pacific remains unchanged.
This would mean that the 0.3°C global average temperature rise which has been predicted for the next decade by the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change may not happen, according to the paper published in the scientific journal Nature. [...]
Now seeing this new revelation is based on a computer model. I won't put any credence in it either. That would be a little hypocritical of me as I sure as hell don't put any credence in any other computer model that tries to predict our climate.
If it was Father Nature I could understand that some computer program could figure it all out. This is Mother Nature people, and there is a damn good reason for that. She is a lot more complicated, and we will never truly understand all the complexities involved.
China's Health Ministry issued a nationwide alert on Saturday calling on local authorities to stop the spread of a virus that causes hand, foot and mouth disease, after an outbreak killed 22 children.
The deaths were first reported in March in the city of Fuyang, in the eastern province of Anhui.
More than 3,700 people in Fuyang have been infected with the virus, up from Friday's official tally of 3,300, according to figures released by local authorities on Saturday.
The central government has warned that the number of cases may increase over the summer because the June-July period is considered peak season for the disease. [...]
Moral of this story...
Don't be taking the kids to see the Olympics in China. Hell just don't go at all. It is not worth it.
