The federal government has joined the crusade against old-style incandescent light bulbs as part of its environment plan that vows to phase out power-hungry lighting by 2012, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and cut air pollution.

Computerized models that predict disaster from CO2 emissions in the atmosphere, and the earth's temperature slowly rising, ignore other realities, such as the sun is getting hotter. Other planets, like Mars, are warming.

Notice how no real estimate is given on the crowd in Montreal, just "thousands". Thousands could mean anywhere from two thousand to 999 thousand. I wonder which thousand it really was? Perhaps it was under two thousand and the estimator just liked the sound of "thousands". Who knows... They go on to mention that only 300 turned out in Ottawa and a mere 250 in Canada's largest city, Toronto. Using that as a basis and that they don't bother to mention any other cities in the country, I can only assume that there were perhaps 17 demonstrators in Winnipeg, 20 in Regina, 14 in Saskatoon, 25 in Calgary, 23 in Edmonton, and giving B.C. the benefit of doubt, perhaps another 200 in both Vancouver and Victoria. Add them all up and as you can see we just may get into the "thousands" here folks...
Is this the best they can do to save our glorious planet from the evil climate change? Hell, we get more than 17,000 people out to Rexal Place in the middle of a winter snow storm to watch the Oilers lose. I guess Climate change and Kyoto really are not that high on the peoples priority list after all. Thank God!

The professor, who is writing a book on the subject, said he only used validated scientific data, published in reputable peer-reviewed refereed journals, as the basis of his theories.

Tell me something I did not already know, and hell, I didn't need to waste time and money on some study to figure it out.
Part of Dion's new green plan is too place a carbon tax on industry.
The main thrust of Mr. Dion's new proposal is what he describes as a “carbon budget,” meaning companies will have to reduce their emissions in line with Canada's Kyoto target of six per cent below 1990 levels.
For each tonne of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gas that is emitted, companies would pay $20 into a green investment account. That price would rise to $30 by 2011 and companies could get their money back if they spend it on measures to reduce emissions.
Let me explain how this will work. Industry will pass on this cost to its customers, YOU and ME. The money will sit in an account garnishing interest that the government will keep for themselves to waste on useless programs. IF, and that is a big IF, a business does actually reduce there output of green house gases, it will get its money back based on that reduction.
So the government will get to keep its money for nothing and say "look at what a good responsible earth loving green government we are!" You and I will pay the cost for the business's which may even get some or all of that money back in time. Who the hell is going to give us OUR money back Mr. Dion? A very profitable scam for the government and possibly the business's at the little peoples expense as per usual.
Update: I'm not the only "genius" to figure out this latest plan by Dion.
Some of the people that support the "man made global warming" theory are now asking that those of the extremist type turn it down a notch or two. Is Al Gore and David Suzuki listening? Something tells me not.
Now one of the people who was a star of the recently shown The Great Global Warming Swindle, a documentary that disputes Al Gores version of the "TRUTH", has come out to say he was swindled and his contribution to the show was taken out of context.
His change of heart would not possibly have anything to do with the threats made to some others who have come out against the "TRUTH" now could it? Maybe it is not that serious. Perhaps someone just threatened him with a lack of funding to head his way for further studies? Not like it would be the first time something like that had happened.
PM Harper is pandering to the Kyoto masses and soon will be announcing the governments new plan to reduce green house gases. Will it be as level headed as Harper has proven to be so far or will he follow all the other politicians down the green brick road no matter the cost?

As I mentioned Here on Monday, a new documentary on global warming aired yesterday on BBC channel 4, "The Great Global Warming Swindle". Spiked-online editor Brendan O’Neill, has a long op-ed on the show and its director, Martin Durkin. Its worth a READ. I am still hoping that a Canadian broadcaster might find enough of a backbone to air this program here in Canada, but I am not going to hold my breath. Also, it is interesting that developing countries, with China and India perhaps in the lead, where the future of the global environment will be decided are now on board with the case for sustainable development.
A shift is necessary toward lifestyles less geared to environmental damaging consumption patterns.
After all, sustainability means running the global environment - Earth Inc. - like a corporation: with depreciation, amortization and maintenance accounts. In other words, keeping the asset whole, rather than undermining your natural capital.
Licences to have babies incidentally is something that I got in trouble for some years ago for suggesting even in Canada that this might be necessary at some point, at least some restriction on the right to have a child..
One of the things that I've always thought I would like to do is to develop an environmental index. Then people can measure their own environmental performance on an index as they do in other ways.
The Earth Charter is important as an expression of the commitment of people throughout the Earth to evoke their own deepest moral, spiritual and ethical principles in the task of ensuring a sustainable future for those who inhabit the Earth now and those who will follow us on the Earth.
What if a small group of these word leaders were to conclude that the principle risk to the earth comes from the actions of the rich countries? And if the world is to survive, those rich countries would have to sign an agreement reducing their impact on the environment. Will they do it?
I propose a new kind of commission be established -- a World Climate Commission. It would be permanent in nature, unlike previous commissions that addressed more limited issues and disbanded after making their reports.
OK, I spent the whole weekend doing my part to save the planet. I made zero effort to do anything that would use up any energy at all. I feel so much better now that I have done my part. Not to mention that I think I have finally gotten rid of that bug that was nagging me for the past week or so. Now if I could only get rid of the bigger bug that is infecting the planet, or at least a large portion of the humans occupying the planet. Kyoto/Human caused Climate Change, the newest plague to infect the brains of humans. It is far worse than BSE is to cattle. Kyoto does not effect the nervous system as does BSE, it goes right to the brain and wipes out all common sense.
It is nice to see some in the main stream are starting to give the "Deniers™" some air time. A new Documentary is set to air Thursday March 8th in the UK. I hope it makes it's way to the airwaves here very soon.

Seeing that the topic has come up in the quote above of Inconvenient Truths, how can one ignore this little tidbit in regards to how rushing to find other sources of fuel, eg. ethanol, are not well thought out by the "Oil Industry and Human Haters Club™".
But a growing number of economists, scientists and environmentalists are calling for a "time out" and warning that the headlong rush into massive ethanol production is creating more problems than it is solving.
Now given the choice of what to do with 1.5 billion dollars, I know that this would be one of the last things I would be wasting it on.

I personaly think that money would be far better spent fighting the Mountain Pine Beetle that is wiping out our northwest pine forests at an alarming rate. Money spent fighting something that is real and not just a hypothesis. What a novel idea.

Easy for them to say. $1040.00 is pocket change for the likes of these guys, but for the average working Canadian... not so much... Wonder if the bank would mind if I don't make a couple of mortgage payments in order to afford to pay this carbon tax? Something tells me, NOT!
Liberal environment critic David McGuinty and New Democratic MP Paul Dewar praised the proposed plan at a news conference Wednesday, and said their parties are debating the idea of a carbon tax internally.
So much for these two parties wanting to help the "average Canadian" with tax relief as proclaimed by both their leaders in Question Period today.

But when it comes to scientists who whistleblow about IPCC reports cooked by politicians to fit their politicized agendas, those whistleblowers are either ignored or dismissed as "skeptics" or quacks and are libelled as haters of this planet and nature, even though most of them have dedicated their lives to studying nature and protecting it.

He cites scientists who’ve been fired, denied post on panels, or whose research has been rejected not for merit, but because they challenge the prevailing UN view that global warming is man-induced, and not a cyclical occurrence of nature. As for Canadians (and PM Harper), the Calgary-based website friendsofscience.org is more instructive than the IPCC.
Then there is this little gem showing how some company's are raking in the doe using a little loophole.
Billions of dollars are being wasted in the international carbon trading system owing to a loophole in the Kyoto protocol, according to a study to be published on Thursday in the journal Nature.
Now tell me again why anyone wants to be part of Kyoto? If we truly want to clean up the mess we have created in regards to pollution, we need to come up with a made at home strategy. One that actually puts our money to work cleaning things up and not wasting it on carbon credits that fill the pockets of people who could really care less about the environment.
A 5 year study by 60 scientists, has come up with a wee kink for the Church of Climatology folks.
Henrik Svensmark, a weather scientist at the Danish National Space Centre who led the team behind the research, believes that the planet is experiencing a natural period of low cloud cover due to fewer cosmic rays entering the atmosphere.
This, he says, is responsible for much of the global warming we are experiencing.
He claims carbon dioxide emissions due to human activity are having a smaller impact on climate change than scientists think. If he is correct, it could mean that mankind has more time to reduce our effect on the climate.
Back to the drawing board we go. Those damn pesky scientists, wrecking all them computer driven models that were so darn good looking. How long do you think it will take for the Climate Change Denier Deniers, to try and trash this one like they do to every other theory that goes against the gospel that is KYOTO?
The National Post has a little right up about our dear friend Maurice Strong(/sarc) and his influence on the Canadian liberal party in regards to Kyoto.
But Kyoto wasn't renegotiated because Mr. Strong is a buddy of former Prime Ministers Jean Chretien and Paul Martin. When he was involved in United Nations operations, he organized the UN's Earth Summit to deal with pollution. He asked for, and got, Canada's unconditional support for Kyoto.
But Canada agreed to commitments of dramatically reducing emissions that no one else did. In fact, the Australians agreed to sign Kyoto after they were given permission by other signators to increase, not reduce, their emissions. This was appropriate given the resource-based nature of Australia's economy, its large land mass and other unique features.
Resources require huge inputs of energy, as does manufacturing, so they negotiated a smart deal.
Even then, the Aussies eventually refused to sign when they realized that the Americans balked on the basis that the world's emerging economies did not have any requirement to curb emissions or clean up their acts. They were exempted.
Today, those emerging economies represent 50% of the world's gross domestic product, almost double when Kyoto was inked.
The failure to impose rules on every country in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Russia is why Kyoto is not worth the trees that were cut down to provide the paper it was written on nor for the sea of newspaper articles still devoted to it.
While Kyoto has been a dead duck everywhere else in the world, except in the Liberal or NDP caucuses, the Tories are going to tackle the issue sensibly.

Forget the coal fired electrical plants. Hell even the Alberta oil sands can't match this place. Welcome to the Parliament Building of Canada, the source of more air pollution in one sitting than all other sources in Canada combined. Want to meet our targets in Kyoto? Shut down the hot air plants inside this place and we will exceed Kyoto by a long shot.
Yup, that's what Kyoto is. Can't blame a guy for calling a spade a spade. Now call me an anti-environmentalist, I need a good laugh to make my day. Just because one disagrees with the way in which the Kyoto Accord was developed, implemented and is now being touted, does not make one any less concerned about the environment. In fact, I could easily argue the opposite. I want our environment cleaned up. I demand it! What I don't want is for one single Canadian dollar that could be spent here on our own pollution problems going to another country. I want every penny spent here at home to clean up our own country. When we have our own yard cleaned up, then and only then will I except any of my tax dollars going elsewhere to help clean up some other country's mess. Kyoto wants us to do the exact opposite. It encourages us to spend our tax dollars on carbon credits to balance our pollution books. This is not about accounting is it? I thought the whole idea was to clean things up, reduce our GHG emissions, you know, save the world and all that fluffy stuff.
I hear that the next report coming out of the IPCC on Friday is going to tell us that, if we don't make MAJOR changes within the next ten years, we will be DOOMED. GHG levels will be past the point of return. So now, tell me again how buying CREDITS from some other country that were arbitrarily set, will clean up our mess that we have created here in Canada and how it is reducing our GHG footprint on the atmosphere? You know that 3% that we are contributing to the problem. Sending 5 million dollars to Russia or any other country for that matter, to purchase those credits cleans up our contribution of GHG's to the atmosphere by exactly how much? Ya that's what I thought. Kyoto is a joke and not worth the toilet paper it was written on. Lets spend our money on actually cleaning up our mess. We will then have the knowledge, ability and most of all, the credibility to help others do the same. Then like the good global neighbours we are, we can go out and clean up the rest of the planet one country at a time. Now what are YOU going to do about it. Don't wait for the bloody incompitent governments of the world to do it for you. Clean up your own act and then go help your neighbours clean up their's and so on and so on.

Dion said his party is preparing an election platform based on the pillars of the environment, economy, and social justice.(Sounds just like the RED BOOK. Full of empty promises that the liberals will not deliver on. Just like the promise of meeting Kyoto targets the first time around, eh Dion.)
“I want the best platform Canadians ever saw,” Dion said in a short, campaign-style speech.(The best platform Canadians could ever see involving liberals, is the one they walk off of on the side of the ship.)
Can you tell I'm getting tired of this? How stupid does he think we are? Does he actually think Canadians are willing to give up our way of life to make HIM look good at some UN Kyoto get together? I rather doubt that. We can do this without killing the existing economy, which it seems, both Dion and Layton are very willing to do to meet Kyoto targets. A made in Canada solution is what we need at this point. One that will clean up this mess and keep our economy flowing at the same time. Canadian politicians need to do more, but not at the expense of the Canadian public!
As most of you know, I am not a fan of the Kyoto Protocol. The main reason being, it allows countries to buy their way out of actually doing anything for the environment. That being said, I have no problem with PM Harper giving Allan Amey the BOOT as the people at CanWest News Service puts it. The reason is, as president of the Climate Fund Agency, his job would have been to purchase emission-reduction credits. I do not want one cent of Canadian tax payers money being spent anywhere but in Canada to improve our environment including for the reduction of CO2. I would next expect that this "Climate Fund Agency" will be scrapped completely by PMSH. My fingers are crossed. I know that Dion will be all up in arms over this one. It had his blessing back when he was the do nothing environment minister of the Liberal government in 2005. If you care to read how full of crap he was then, read this. How anyone in this country can agree with spending billions on so called Kyoto units that do not clean up a bloody thing is beyond me. The Clean Air Act, in my opinion, clearly does not go far enough. At the same time it does actually help in cleaning up pollution in Canada which is a good starting point. Now if we could only stop all the ranting and raving out there regarding the environment and sit down like adults and come up with more real solutions to fix the problems, we as a nation would be far better off.
