Now this is my favorite kind of story!
Meet Sadie, A Black Labrador who saved the lives of dozens of soldiers in Afghanistan by detecting a bomb, has been awarded the Dickin Medal, the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross.
It just doesn't get any better than that....

Cool find. I love animal heroes.
That link you supplied to the Dickin medal is gonna come in handy. I'm going to submit a couple of names to that list...Togo and Balto.

Leonhard Seppala was my grandfather's cousin.
Thank you for the educational link Chimera. I had never heard of Seppala before. Alot of good reads there and in the links too.
Although Labradors and Newfoundlanders are my two favorite breeds, which is probably due to my love of the water and their layed back nature, Huskies come in at a close third.
I wonder what the cat did to get the medal?
Thanks for the history, Chimera, what a great story.
Candace... I would imagine, although not very clear in the article, Simon the cat was badly wounded and yet continued to do his job...killing rats! In 1949, I would imagine the rats on the ships were just as much a danger to the people aboard as any enemy on the sea due to the diseases they carried.
