Very Disappointing to say the least

Don't preach to me about getting tough on crime when you are not following the laws of the land yourself. Get your act together, before trying to amend those acts. I am not impressed!

What, you haven't seen this one coming?

Yes I did see it coming. It was inevitable. I just don't like how they went about it or the timing of it. Guess I just expect a little better from the party than this. You know, that damn accountability thing.

Hate to sound like a broken record, but compared to the fancy footwork Martin et al did about the $1.4 million (did we ever get that cheque cashed), the fact that they (a) filed an appeal and then (b) fixed the problem when they lost the appeal, and fixed it (relatively) quickly DOES speak to accountability, doncha think?

Kinda embarassing, all the same.

Candace, one cannot play a broken record. A scratched record on the other hand.... A better question is...did the libs ever cut that cheque? And what about the rest of the tax payers funds that disappeared. When do we see them returned.

Point well stated and made. However I stand by my first opinion in the post. Laws are there for a reason, to be followed whether we like them or not. Abide by them, plain and simple.

Tim, I'm no tax lawyer or accountant, but trust me, there's a reason corporations will pay top tax lawyers $500+ an hour to argue arcane tax laws with Revenue Canada, and this looks like one of those issues.

My guess is the CPC lawyers/accountants read the law one way and operated on that basis. Elections Canada disagreed. Lawyers made gazillions arguing and winning/losing (depending on which side they were on), which would also explain why the CPC denied any wrongdoing until the final ruling was received.

Corporations spend big bucks getting "advanced rulings" on tax law BEFORE they do something to avoid a huge tax bill if they've misinterpreted something. I wouldn't be surprised to find a Revenue Canada ruling floating around on this very issue, with the "fatal flaw" being that Elections, not Revenue, Canada get the final call on this.

Nobody's perfect. What puzzles me is that some people think they can make the rest of us believe otherwise. Well, if it gets them elected, whatever works, I guess...until it comes back and bites them on the ass.

Zorph did a great post on this.

No doubt you are correct Candace. When I was in business for myself, I paid some hefty bills to tax accountants and lawyers. When I shut down the business, I was again accosted by Revenue Canada years later demanding several thousand dollars. It took two more years to get that straightened out. I ended up paying a nice bill again to get them off my back. A year later I recieved a refund of that amount plus, after it was reviewed one more time at their liesure. To this day I expect another letter saying to pay them back..... in other words, the system sucks, but like democracy, it is not the best system out there but its the best system we have at the moment.

A very smart non-partisan post.

Personally, I don't think it is non-patisan. I am very much a concerned conservative suporter. I just call em as I see em. The party involved does not matter. Unlike some in the political blogoshpere, I will not go blindly believing that "my party" has no faults. I will however hope, that it has fewer faults than the others. One party in particular comes to mind. Now where did that cheque go? Must be lost in the mail. Ya thats it.....

It is comments like that Tim that you ne of the best.

Still the interesting question is "Have the Liberals paid back that stolen monies?" It is still a very valid point, and I'm sure the CPC will raise during QP in the House (in an effect to devert from this issue)

Anyways Tim, how could I not include you, you were fair and honest about the issue, just like the Phantom. Credit where credit is due and all the stuff.

Me, I'm just an arsehole enjoy the show, LOL

But just a little arsehole... always enjoy the show Zorph, especially when nothing is speeled correctly and there is a bit of rodent humour added to the mix.
