Your Tax Dollars Hard at Work

After solving all of Canada's political problems, our politicians work on solving the problem of choosing players for Team Canada with emphasis on the captain.

The Bloc Québécois is demanding Shane Doan be removed as captain of Canada's world championship hockey team, in light of the disparaging comments he allegedly made about French Canadians in 2005.

I think we should give these people a raise. They are obviously over worked.../sarc

Andrew did a post on this at BBG, and I followed with one of my own.

I propose a new law: Every time an MP gets off-topic when it comes to the business of government, he has to pay a large, non-tax-deductible, personal fine into a fund which, at the end of the year, will be given back to the citizens of Canada. And this fine cannot be paid by constituency associations or out of party coffers. The entire weight of the fine must be borne personally by the MP himself.

One of two things would happen. Either we'll all get rich or we'll all go broke. I don't really care which.
